General

Abdominal pads that are also referred to as lap sponges, are absorbent pad that are used during surgical procedures, especially operations involving the abdominal region. Abdominal Pads are offered for application when high absorbency is required to handle heavy drainage, keep wound dry and promote healing. The lap sponge assists in keeping the surgical site free of body fluids such as blood, providing surgeons with a clear field of view and clean work space, and Abdominal Pads are used for absorption of exudations and stop bleeding during surgical operation. A laparotomy sponge can also be used to cease blood flow by applying pressure onto the bleeding wound.
Abdominal Pads are made out of pre-washed cotton featured with highly absorbent cellulose for maximum absorbency. 100% pre-washed cotton can reduce lint and loose threads and steam-dried for further softness. Abdominal Pads are latex free to ensure high absorption and breathable. Safe double stitched all around the lap sponge can ensure no loosing of fibers. Optional central sewing of lap sponge can be available. Non-woven facing and super absorbent cotton filler with rayon fibers help diffuse liquid throughout the lap sponge.
Control loop handles with detectable threads are optional, when loop handles with detectable threads are required, control loop handles are often blue with a radiopaque thread sewn into the Abdominal Pads to aid in X-ray detection.
Mesh is associated with the density of the cotton that the abdominal pads are made from. A higher mesh count signifies higher density. Gauze yarn relates to the fineness (or coarseness) of the abdominal pads. An elevated yarn count is indicative of courser threads. Ply refers to the number of layers that compose the sponge. Increased ply equates to increased thickness.
Non-washed Abdominal Pads are available, compared with pre-washed Abdominal Pads, pre-washed variant is more effective at absorbing fluids, and is the more popular choice in surgical procedures.
Abdominal pads are available in various dimensions, plies and number of threads, any specification of lap sponge is subjected to purchase order.
Abdominal pads can be packed in paper pouch or blister packing or shrinkage packing, and packaging can be sterilized by Steam, EO or Gamma or not sterile, and packing are marked legibly in line with EC requirements and industrial requirements.
